" “Art is not what you see, but what you make others see.”
  ~ Edgar Degas

An artist at heart, a creative with the goal to make every subject shine, I live in an endless state of continuing education on the latest technology & technique and in constant search of new inspiration. Life since childhood has always been about creating art in some form using any number of media from paint to pencil to clay to mixed media to digital art. Photography is the  fullest fruition of this creative drive. My aim is to show the spirit of the subject or that of the relationship between the subjects and with their environment.  Over the years, I have had many clients tell me I do just this, show them the true essence, much to their delight. It's different with every image  - a softness, a strength, a pride, a grace, a playful side, a subtlty that exists day to day but is usually not captured. Sessions are never hurried as special moments take time to reveal themselves. I work tirelessly to elicit them and wait patiently to capture them..

My philosophy is that exceptional images are most possible when the background contains few or no man-made elements such as fences, barns, poles, etc. for equine photography especially. Natural or simple textural backdrops are best for just about any type of portrait. Take a moment to critically look through some of the full page color glossy advertisements in just about any equine or other magazine and you will see that a simple, natural background enhances the subject rather than detracting with background clutter. I preview locations whenever possible and discuss all options with you in the pre-shoot planning session. Of course, the reality is that many of us do not have "pristine" natural backgrounds available so in those cases we can explore special shooting locations and digital artwork that can transform a real world background into something more like a fantastic dream world.

I custom print  most of my work by hand using archival materials that will last 100-200 years. When I do require use of a lab, I use only a pro lab that never sends originals offsite. This extra requirement is to safeguard images that are important to you. I also do not destroy originals - they remain in my archives indefinitely so you can order more prints in the future.

My ultimate goal for your session is to give you images which make your heart sing. I'd like for you to be so happy with the results that you won't be able to wait to show your friends and tell them about the great experience. Your goals are my primary guide and I will do all I can to ensure they are all met. While I will make suggestions during our planning and photo sessions, my goal is to meet your needs by creating spectacular images that you will love and by being open to your ideas in that creation. If you're not sure of what you want, you may call any time right up to the date of the session and  discuss new ideas.
